NOTIFICATION OF BRIDGE MAINTAINANCE
SCHEME: LITTLE BYTHAM BRIDGE.
Lincolnshire County Council is currently preparing the above scheme to complete essential highway maintenance works on Little Bytham Bridge to rectify defects that we have found in our routine inspections.
The works are planned to begin on 6th November 2025 and will take place until 3rd December 2025. During this period, it will be necessary to have temporary traffic lights in operation to safely manage traffic flow (see attached the letter).
The works around Little Bytham Bridge involve various improvements to the structure and surrounding infrastructure, including:
- Install tie bars and plates: Install reinforcing metal tie bars to prevent further movement in the wingwalls.
- Small stonework repairs: Replacement and repointing of damaged/weathered sections of the stone bridge to help maintain its strength and appearance.
- Prevent erosion under the bridge: Fill eroded and erosion-prone areas with material and cover them with protective mats (called Reno mattresses) to stop further damage which can affect the bridges foundations.
- Remove ivy from lower walls: Remove vegetation, particularly ivy growing below the decorative stone bands to prevent it from weakening the stonework.
All reasonable measures will be taken to complete the scheme as quickly as possible. Every effort will be taken to minimize disruption and inconvenience.
